The association was founded in 1962 and was originally called Fresno Metro covering Madera and Fresno counties. Since that time the association has grown to cover 9 counties, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Kern, Mono, Inyo, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. In 1985 the association name was changed to Central California. ASA has recognized Central California as one of the top ten associations in team and umpire registrations for the past 10 years.
